Today we are stepping out of the box on the radiant soul sisters. I am so excited. You are listening to this episode and getting to hear from my friend and podcast coach Rob Cressy. If you heard me mention before, the build your life resume program and community that I am a part of. This is where I connected with Rob Cressy. Then I had the opportunity to meet Rob personally at Driveway way Hell, in Rome, Georgia, where we were challenging ourselves and building relationships with many people in the community. Rob taught me how to launch this podcast. And for that I will be forever grateful. You will want to hear what Rob has to say because he has amazing energy. And he is all about building better mindsets, habits and routines, so you can win in life and business. Rob, I am so glad you’re here.

Rob

Susan, best intro ever! Thank you so very much for inviting me. And I’ve got to show you so much love, because you did the work to make your podcast happen. And that is something that not everybody does, because everybody’s got the idea. But so few see it all the way to execution. And congratulations now you get to do the fun part! See all of the rewards connect with all of the people sharing inspiring stories and help others on your journey for your audience.

Susan

Oh, my gosh, Rob, you have hit the nail on the head because I had the idea of this podcast for a while, right. But when I would think about podcasting, I got overwhelmed, because I didn’t know what I didn’t know. So it wasn’t until I got into your program. And you gave me the step by step plan on how to create this podcast. And I told myself, if you’re going to join this program, you’re going to follow his steps and get this done. And you’re right, I’m in the best part now where I get to connect with people like you, and talk to you and have candid conversations and learn about the great things happening in other’s lives. So thanks I appreciate it!

Rob

You’re welcome and I’m very proud of you!

Susan

Thank you. So Rob, before we dive deep into a few other things about how you have created this life you’d love and you know, when I’m talking with the women we’re talking about are radiant souls shining. And I really even think that’s true for many, many men and especially for you. But Rob, can you tell me what is one of your favorite childhood memories.

Rob

So for me, there’s so many of them. But what pops into my mind right away is my love of sports. And growing up, I dreamed of having a basketball hoop at our house, but there was a problem. We lived on a driveway that was pretty much an incline. So a lot of kids when you’re growing up like my neighbor across the street, boom, perfectly flat driveway, you just throw on that basketball hoop right above the garage, no problem. But for us that didn’t exist. Because our driveway is at a 90 degree angle. So one day my dad decided to, I don’t know if he did this, or he hired someone that was younger. But they built a four slab of concrete in our backyard enough to put a basketball hoop that was the size of a free throw line and put it on our back patio. And why this stands out to me is because there is no room for this basketball hoop in the backyard. And why is that? Because immediately behind this free throw line is a gigantic Hill. So if I shot the ball and missed or it was one of those really hard rebounds, it goes down a gigantic hill, which then leads to another gigantic hill. So for me though, the reason this stands out so much is because so often in life we think that things can’t happen or I don’t have enough time or I don’t have enough space or insert “whatever”. But my dad saw my love of basketball as a kid and found a way to get me the simplest version possible enough to get a free throw line. And I spent hours upon hours no matter the seasons growing up in Pittsburgh that I remember it’d be raining and snowing and I’m still sitting out there with my free throw line hoop just shooting hoops all the time. So that’s one of my memories.

Susan

I love that story. I love that your dad found a way to make it happen. Your dad found a way to give you a gift of something that you would treasure forever, right.

Rob

Without a doubt, the reason I am the way that I am now is because of a love of sports and basketball. And that is one of the things that contributed to it.

Susan

Right. I love that. Absolutely love that. So Rob, you know, you’re an entrepreneur, and you’ve gotten out here and you’re building this great coaching practice. And you also are teaching people how to start their podcast and as an entrepreneur, you know, it can be a difficult place to be. But what I know from watching you and getting to know you, is you have learned a lot of lessons about being an entrepreneur and having a positive mindset. What is one of the lessons you have learned?

Rob

Well, it’s actually the biggest lesson and the simplest lesson. So at the very beginning of my entrepreneurial journey, this is probably twelve years ago, when I went full time doing this, I asked myself one question, what will help me accomplish my goals faster positivity or negativity? The answer is positivity of course. Negativity is going to take me further away from where I want to go. And it’s going to slow me down. Therefore, negativity has no place in my life. And this became binary a one or zero. Negativity became a zero, and positivity is a one. So people oftentimes ask Rob, how are you always this positive? Or how are you always this happy? And for me, this is my autopilot and this is my lifestyle by design. Because number one, this is way better than the alternative. Number two, we all have a choice to live in the positive or live in the negative. And number three, because this is my how I show up every single day. There is no actual thought to the negative because it is a zero. I’ve never watched the news. I’m not involved in politics. For me, my world and my inputs are built around amazing people, positive inputs that lift me up, my dreams, my family, my friends, my relationships. And it’s how you and I, Susan even connected. Why because we’re both part of Jesse Itzlers’ Build Your Life Resume Kennedy. And it’s a bunch of like minded people who say, you know what, we’re going to make this the best year of our life. Which means we’re going to make this the best day of our life, the best moment of our life. And for me, this is a mindset, a lifestyle and a way of being. So for me, this is a very simple choice that anybody listening right now, you could just choose to say, I’m dropping negativity for my life forever. And I promise you, it’ll change your life forever.

Susan

Oh, man, I totally agree with you. And you know, I don’t think people really realize how many negative thoughts they have in a day. But if you take a day, or even just an hour, or even just thirty minutes, and pay attention to the negative thoughts that come through your mind, you might be surprised and when you can turn those around, I agree with you totally. Positivity makes the biggest difference in the world. Rob, we were talking before we started recording about you choosing to move to Florida and why you chose to move to Florida. And you know, truthfully, what I heard you saying is it’s a choice of lifestyle, and a choice of how you wanted to live your life and how you wanted to raise your family. And that leads me thinking about work life harmony. You know, oftentimes people talk about balance and you know, I don’t mind talking about balance, but I really think it’s all about work life harmony. Sometimes you have to play a different instrument a little bit more than another. But what have you learned or how do you obtain work life harmony?

Rob

I don’t believe in balance. That word is not in my vocabulary. I feel like it is a self limiting word. It’s a word that’s full of excuses of people trying to say why I am where I am not something. So work life harmony, for me is unique because my work is my life. Because by design, I left my old corporate job of doing digital advertising sales, which I did for more than a decade. I was very successful at and made a good amount of money. But I didn’t wake up every day looking forward to slinging banner ads and text links no matter how much they paid me. So if you got the opportunity to do anything that you wanted in your life, what would you choose? Well, that’s what I chose. I’m like, I want to be a full time creator and entrepreneur. And that’s what I have done. And because of that, and of course, as you dive deeper into the world of entrepreneurship, I won’t say this is a double edged sword. But this opens up a new Pandora’s box when your work is your life. So therefore, there is no end to what it is that you’re building because you love what you’re doing so much. So like you’re always on. And that’s something that I’ve had to do a lot of coaching and internal work on myself on always being on when you’re like, I love what I do every single day. And for me, once again, you’re probably gonna hear a theme over and over again, why am I the way that I am? Because I used to not wake up excited for the day. Now I wake up every single day. And the first thing that I say I say is gonna be a great day. Because every single day is truly living my dreams, because I am living my dreams. So I am in complete harmony, every single day, every single moment between work and life. Because for me, I love working with awesome people doing awesome things, making positive impact in this world and helping others grow.

Susan

Ah, I can just hear that symphony that how beautiful it flows in your day to day life, you know. And speaking of day to day life, you we choose and you are a prime example I love on your Instagram, how you put every single day, today is a great day. Well, when you have that mindset today is going to be a great day. So every day you make choices to ensure that your radiant soul shines or that you are illuminated. What other things I know you do, you say it’s going to be a great day, what other things do you do to keep yourself in that positive frame of mind?

Rob

So the word that I would like to use is creating because I actually consider myself a creating coach even though I don’t publicly say that. Because no one is sitting there on Google being like, I want a creating coach. But I really help people do two things. I help them create internally or externally. Internally, your mindset and your heart set. Externally, podcasts, videos, your brand growth. In between all that are habits, routines, and mindsets that can help you the story that you’re going to tell yourself or the actions that you’re going to take to create the things like a podcast in your life. And I’m very big into lifestyle design, obviously, once again, it’s why we’re in Build Your Life Resume. And the reason I say today is going to be a great day, and I probably say it three to five times over the course of the first two hours, is because boom. It’s a positive drip in an intention. And imagine saying today is going to be a great day, once a day for a year or a decade. Well imagine saying that three to five times for the first two hours for a decade. Ah, what do you think’s going to happen? So now we realize, wait a second, we can control and design the story that we’re telling ourselves, and something that many people are challenged by and struggle with? And I think Susan, certainly you and I as well, is self-talk. Is that self limiting voice that we have is always going to be there no matter how positive and radiant we are. It’s just part of life. That being said, we don’t have to listen to it. And we don’t have to give it power.

On the flip side, you can say, all right, well, because I’m about that positive life and because I control my inputs, well, what are the inputs that I’m going to design that are going to create the story in the powerful truth of who I am. So every single morning, and this is foundational to my coaching that I do with people who want more growth and to become the best version of themselves. We create a document of declarations that starts with I am. And there’s a series of statements and a lot of people are used to the term affirmations. And they’re good, but I do declarations which are truth and powerful. And the difference is an affirmation oftentimes, we may be trying to tell ourselves something, a lot of people don’t necessarily believe it. And oftentimes it can be a future statement. It’s not bad because it’s not like we’re having a negative input. But there is more access to more power for ourselves in the declaration. So imagine yourself standing on top of a mountain and being like, I am infinite love, boom. I am this. I’m claiming ownership of this power right now. It is my truth. It is who I am, boom, you declare it to your world. So for me, you sit there and you speak it, you feel into it, and then you visualize it. So the first thing that I speak every day is, I am infinite love. And I think about my son and my wife and getting to talk to you on the podcast today in the Build Your Life Resume community, and living where I live and doing the things that I do. And I imagine just this radiation of love and red and hearts just boom flowing from me. Awesome! Move on to the next one, then you go through a series of things. So it’s like, I am a force of attraction. And I have a little emoji of a diamond. And I sit there and I imagine myself gleaming, and just bringing things into my life where people like, oh, Rob, you’re so radiant and beautiful, like a diamond. I want to be a part of what you’re doing. Boom! I speak and I feel into it and I visualize it every single day. And I’ve got thirty two of these things that create my truth of who I am, every single day. And imagine what happens for the rest of my day, when every single day, AKA the power of consistency, I speak these things, and I feel them and I visualize them. It is impossible to not show up as a radiating ball of energy on fire for your life and to help others because I’m creating my truth in the story I tell myself. So when inevitably, those self limiting judgments and fears that are out there in the world, I already know what’s true. That’s just a blip on my radar, yeah, it can be a thought. But I’ve already been radiating these other energies, and other people are bouncing back and forth, similar to the energy that you bring Susan. And boom, that is the choice. So that’s how I intentionally designed for my soul to shine.

Susan

Oh, my goodness, there are so many great golden nuggets in what you just said. And, oh, we could do a whole another two or three podcast on those. But I love that, that when you are making your declarations that you have something you visualize with them. And I love the visualization of shining like a diamond and just going out into the world bright with great energy, because that is how we do impact the world. And Rob, you are a perfect example of that. And I am I’m just so grateful. So Rob, I had one question left for you today. But before we get there, I know that you brought something along for our listeners or an opportunity for them. So do two things, tell us where everyone can connect with you. How they can connect with you and then what is what is it you brought for us today?

Rob

So I have a ton of resources that I love to share with everyone to help you along on your journey. Whether it’s on mindset or heart set or launching a podcast, you can go to RobCressy.com. Or I have a podcast Best Year Ever, that helps inspire growth and impact so you can create your best year ever. I’ve got a YouTube channel that has the videos. And then you can hit me up on social media on all platforms @RobCressy. And Susan, once again, you are a shining light in this world because you took the radiant energy that you have and you decided to launch a podcast. And this is something that I would love to give everybody else that gift because I’ve seen this gift. And unfortunately, I had to learn the hard way. I had no one there to help me to give me that roadmap. I had to figure it out on my own, and I made a ton of mistakes.

So, what I would love to do is help other people on their podcasting journey, you can go to RobCressy.com/voice. We’ve got programs coming up pretty much through the rest of the year, if you’re someone who wants to let your voice shine. Using Susan as inspiration, or just ask Susan about her process in this because I’ve done this a thousand times. But I think it’s a lot more relatable to say, wait a second, let me find someone that I trust and I know and I love and what was your experience? And you were able to make this work. And if you started at zero, and I’m at zero. Well, maybe I can do this. And Susan, I think we both can say they can do this, can’t they?

Susan

Absolutely. And I just want to reiterate there that number one your system to starting a podcast, you give easy to follow steps and you’re like this is what you do. This is what you do. Don’t overanalyze it. Don’t overthink it. Follow along. And if you follow along on Rob steps, you will be surprised at how quickly you can launch your podcast. Rob challenged us to launch a podcast in 30 days. Now I will say mine has taken about 45 days to get launched. But it’s not because of the podcast. And it’s not because of that of the programming what it is, it’s because of some other technical things that I personally had going on. So if you’re thinking about podcast, Rob Cressy is the one that you need to catch up with, because you will be able to start it. And one other thing that Rob told me is, and I hear him saying it. Every single one of us has a voice. We have something to share. And Rob and I could say the exact same thing. But it’s going to resonate with the right people at the right time. So don’t be afraid to join in and join us in the podcast world because we would love to have you right, Rob?

Rob

Yes, because that’s why I call my program Shining Your Voice. Because as we said, Susan, if you have something inside of you that can help even one person, then it is your duty to share it with the world. Because remember, positive or negative, there are so many negative inputs and influences out there in the world, that even if one person listens to your podcast, and you help one person, you’re counterbalancing all the negative in the world with one positive good thing. So go to RobCressy.com/voice. I would love to be a champion for you.

Susan

And we will have all of that in the show notes. So if this episode has you thinking about how to put yourself first, create a positive life, while living out your purpose and having work life harmony, be sure to connect with me on my socials @SusanCrewsCo. And if you would like to dig deeper, go to my website, SusanCrewsCo.com. and schedule a time to chat. Rob, I have learned so much from you today, I have written down so many golden nuggets, and I appreciate it. But looking back and on all that you have shared with us today, thinking about the person who needs to hear from you today, what is the one biggest lesson or piece of advice that you would like to share and leave us with?

Rob

I believe in you. We all have so much power inside of us. And sometimes you just need somebody else next to you to be a champion for you to say it’s okay or that I’ve been there or you know what, I’m there to talk or to challenge you or to help give you a roadmap for growth. Because being the best version of yourself every single day. It’s a lifestyle, a mindset and a way of being. And both Susan and I we started at zero. I was not this way twelve years ago. And oftentimes people are like, Oh, Rob, have you always been this way? No, I was the complete opposite. And I am this way. Because number one, I know the gifts and the benefits when you live a radiant life where you help other people and you love what you’re doing. But more importantly, I know what it’s like to not live this. Where I did not live a holistic life, where I was not fulfilling my potential, where I was not doing what I love, where I was under indexing. And you know, the thing that I was not willing to live with, which completely changed my life. Because so many people are like, well Rob, what was it like in the moment, and I said to myself, I would regret it for the rest of my life if I didn’t give it a shot at making my dreams happen. And for me, the bigger risk was not taking the risk. And once I went all in, I burned the boats and I never went back. The thing that is most important is belief, because I saw the statistics that were out there. And it’s like 80% of businesses fail within the first three years or something like that. And for me, I knew if I quit, and I gave up on myself and my dreams, that’s the only way it’s not going to happen. So I built this belief in myself, but I want to help share that belief with you. Because sometimes, Susan, as you said, different voices are going to resonate with different people. But I want to let you know that if you’re thinking about something, and you don’t have to want to be an entrepreneur, you can have your own internal personal greatness for what it is that you want to do. And you can say, hey, how can I do more of what I love in my life? How can I have more, better self-talk or more clarity, or a vision that I’m excited about, or healthier relationships, or a healthier body or doing things that I’ve never done before. It all starts with the belief that it’s possible, and then you take the first step, and then you find a tribe of like minded people to get down like you get down and then you rinse and repeat every single day. So I believe in you, and I love you.

Susan

Oh and I believe in you and I appreciate your gifts to the world and sharing podcasting with anybody who wants to take that next step. That’s just one of the little things that you do. Thank you so much for being here and everyone for listening today. I hope you have enjoyed another episode of the Radiant Soul Sisters, even though we’ve stepped out of the box and had Rob Cressy with us today. Join us next time as we shine the light on another radiant soul sister on her path to living her dreams and creating work life harmony. Till then I’m your host Susan Crews, and you can find all of our episodes, resources, community, and much more on my website at SusanCrewsCo.com.
